United Native Friendship Center Child Care Cnt.

Scope: Architectural Hardware, Hollow Metal Doors and Frames, Auto Operators, Aluminum and Glass

With an overall project budget of $3.2 million, this new construction project provided for a child care centre facility for the United Native Friendship Centre in Fort Frances.  The facility is also home to other community services and staff including an aboriginal prenatal program, a Family Support Program, a Healthy Babies worker, and a cultural worker, all able to provide support to the community.  A major goal of the facility was to be as connected to the language and culture as possible and provide opportunities for on-the-land-based activities for the children.  Future plans include a community gardens as well as utilizing partnerships in the community to bring in cultural, nutrional, language and educational activities.

Ecole Elsie MacGill Public School

City: Thunder Bay, Ont.
Branch: Allmar Thunder Bay

Scope: Supply of Finishing Hardware, Supply and Install of Automatic Door Operators.

Ecole Elsie MacGill Public School is a state-of-the-art fully accessible school that has been purposely designed to meet the needs of twenty-first century learners.  With an overall project budget of $27 million, the large 78,523 square foot facility is a 2 storey building which includes 30 classrooms, day care, multiple meeting and breakout rooms, a large library and learning commons, as well as a large gym with hardwood floors and stage.  Elsie MacGill was a pioneer in Canadian Aviation and an advocate for children’s and women’s rights.
