More About Allmar
Our History
Allmar was founded in 1957 in Winnipeg, Manitoba by Henry Redekopp, who named the company after his two eldest children Albert and Margaret. Henry immigrated to Canada in 1924 from Ukraine (formerly the USSR). He was eleven years old and the youngest of six children. After graduating from high school in Winkler, Manitoba, he settled in northeast Winnipeg. Later, in 1939 he purchased a small feed and grocery store in the area called the Roadside Store.
The store grew from a small operation with two employees into a large general store and building material center called Redekopp Lumber and Supply. Redekopp Lumber and Supply sold housing packages to customers and through these interactions Henry saw an opportunity to expand the product offering to include building products such as doors, windows, and roofing.
Traction with these product lines eventually led to the founding of Allmar as a wholesale distributor selling to lumberyards throughout Manitoba. In the early 1960’s Allmar took on the architectural hardware product line and began supplying commercial projects such as schools and hospitals. While windows and roofing dropped out of the Allmar offering, architectural hardware became the core of Allmar’s business, along with hollow metal doors and frames, wood doors, automatic door operators, and miscellaneous building specialties products (Division 10 in the construction schedule which includes washroom accessories, operable walls, lockers, wall protection and more). Operations expanded to include branches across western Canada.
With fire and life safety being at the core of specifying the correct products for construction schedules, Allmar has always emphasized ongoing development and required expertise to serve architects, contractors, and developers on construction projects. For over six decades, Allmar has valued technical education and certification, sending our staff to learn and grow each year through the industry certifying body called the Door and Hardware Institute. Allmar’s sales professionals learn about door, frame, and hardware applications, codes and standards, electrified hardware, specifications, etc. and can ultimately certify as architectural hardware consultants, certified door consultants, electrified hardware consultants and as fire door inspectors. Our many credentialed staff have also given back by supporting DHI Canada as instructors over the years, imparting knowledge and celebrating new students as they enter the industry.
In February of 2024, Allmar was purchased from Edwin and Arthur Redekopp by the management team, including Ron Jonkman, CEO, Brad Miles, CSO, Paul Porco, CFO, Martin Willett, COO and Elise Mayberry, VP of Marketing. Edwin Redekopp accepted an invitation to reinvest alongside the management team as a partner, nurturing his passion for Allmar and confidence in the management team’s continued success.
Today Allmar serves the commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-family residential construction markets with 14 locations across the country and is home to Canada’s largest team of architectural door, hardware, division 10 and access control experts. Allmar is positioned to be the nation’s leader in contract hardware consulting, supported by strong project management, operational excellence, and logistics. Our goal has always been to provide a safe and secure building environment for building owners, and the people that will occupy those buildings once the key is turned. We do that by offering expert advice, on-time delivery, an absolute commitment to customer service and the latest innovative products. With a support network of experts that extends from our contract hardware consultants and project managers to our branch counter sales staff, we can consult on projects of any size.
