From a Winnipeg business to a Canadian leader.
Allmar's history begins with entrepreneur Henry Redekopp and a growing building-supply business that ultimately evolved into a company specializing in architectural openings.
The Roadside Store
Henry Redekopp purchased a small feed and grocery store in northeast Winnipeg called the Roadside Store. The operation eventually grew into Redekopp Lumber and Supply.
A new building-products company
Henry founded Allmar in Winnipeg, naming the company after his two eldest children, Albert and Margaret. Allmar began as a wholesale distributor serving lumberyards throughout Manitoba.
Architectural hardware becomes the core
In the early 1960s, Allmar added architectural hardware and began supplying commercial projects including schools and hospitals. Doors, frames, hardware and building specialties gradually became the heart of the business.
Growing beyond Manitoba
Operations expanded into additional markets as Allmar developed expertise in hollow metal doors and frames, wood doors, architectural hardware, automatic operators and miscellaneous building specialties.
A culture of technical education
Fire and life safety made specialized knowledge essential. Allmar invested heavily in continuing education through the Door and Hardware Institute, building one of Canada's strongest teams of architectural opening professionals.
