Located in South Burnaby on Edmonds Street, the $32-million facility with LEED Silver Certification opened in late 2012. It boasts a six-lane, 25 meter pool, a leisure pool, warm swim and therapy lanes, a lazy river with two channels, double water slides, a twin gymnasium, community kitchen, active studio, multi-purpose rooms, senior’s lounge, youth room and a preschool play care center that features an indoor playground and more. CEI Architecture began the design of the 95,000 square foot Edmonds Community Centre and Fred Randall Pool with the neighborhood in mind. As a growing number of new Canadians unfamiliar with the concept of a community center, part of the preliminary information stage was to communicate the function of the facility and outline the public feedback process. The result of this targeted information-gathering stage resulted in a diversified facility that meets the social, recreation and cultural needs of its end users. Allmar supplied doors, frames and hardware from 03/23/11 until 06/21/13.
